Forests In Moldova

Main Forest Areas

Codrii
Are often referred to as the “green heart” of Moldova, Codrii is the country’s most well-known forest region.

It consists of rolling hills covered in dense woodland, with a mix of oak, beech, and other native trees.

The area is rich in biodiversity and has long been a natural refuge for
both wildlife and people.

It is said that the Codrii forests have always protected those who entered it with respect - but never revealed their secrets to those who rushed through it

Moldova's Forests are an important part of the landscape.

They cover hills, valleys, and protected areas, creating habitats for wildlife and helping to protect the natural balance of the environment.

Although Moldova is not among Europe’s most heavily forested countries, its forests remain an important part of both nature and the everyday life.

From the larger woodlands of Codrii to smaller forested areas across the country, they offer shade, quiet paths, fresh air, and a chance to experience a very different side of Moldova.

They are places where nature, wildlife, and local traditions continues to exist side by side.

Plaiul Fagului Nature Reserve
A protected forest area known for its beech trees and diverse plant life.

It represents one of Moldova’s most valuable natural reserves, where ecosystems
are carefully preserved.

In the quiet of the beech forests, it is said that time moves slower - and those who walk there leave lighter than they arrived.

Pădurea Domnească
One of the largest natural reserves in Moldova, located near the Prut River.

It is known for its floodplain forests, ancient oak trees, and rich wildlife.

Old stories tell that the ancient oaks have stood long enough to witness kings, wars, and passing centuries - yet they remain, unchanged.

Central & Southern Forest Areas
Beyond the named reserves, forests stretching across central Moldova and into the south, becoming more open and scattered.

These areas connect landscapes and support local ecosystems, even where
forests are less dense.
