Fishing On lake Manta

Lake Manta  near Manta, Pașcani and Crihana Veche

Lake Manta is one of those places that feels much larger than you might think
and expect.

Long before you reach the shoreline, water begins appearing between the reeds and the open land.

Birds circle above the wetlands, channels cut through the landscape, and now and then the lake appears beside the road before it dissapears again behind vegetation.

You continue driving a little further, and then the lake appears properly, it is Wide, open, and stretching across the southern landscape.

The villages around Lake Manta are small and very quiet.

Gardens can be seen behind the homes, trees lean over old fences, and now and then someone walks along the roadside or returns from the water carrying fishing equipment.

It is simply another day around the lake and  When you get closer to the lake, the landscape begins to change.

Reeds gather along the shoreline, small channels cut through the vegetation, and birds move low across the water, in the search for a good and fresh meal.

In some places the lake stretches wide beneath the open sky, in others the shoreline becomes narrower where reeds and small inlets create sheltered corners along the water.

Early in the morning you'll exsperience mist sometimes hangs above the lake before slowly lifting with the sun.

Along the shore, you hear water moving against the reeds, birds calling somewhere further out, and the wind crossing the open water.

You will be able to catch carp, crucian carp, perch, roach, bream, and-
pike, especially near the reed-covered edges and calmer and silent
parts of the lake.

During the warm evenings and quieter nights, catfish can also be found in deeper waters, and from time to time someone speaks about a catch that arrived after hours of waiting.

The larger pikes are sometimes caught near thicker reeds, particularly during the cooler periods, while zander can appear in deeper sections during the early mornings or late evening hours.

Fishing at Lake Manta is often as much about the lake as it is about the fish.

Early in the morning, local fishermen begin to show up along the shoreline carrying rods, folding chairs, buckets, and whatever else they might need for
the next few hours

Some settle beside the reeds, others moves further along the shore looking for a place of their own.

Once they have found it, many are staying there for most of the day, watching the water, talking now and then, and waiting patiently for the next bite and the
catch of the day.

It is a good idea not to set your time after a clock and your watch, since you quickly will realize, the time are moving too fast.

As evening approaches, the light changes across the water and reeds while birds continue fly over the waters across the sky.

Campfires can appear along the shoreline.

People prepare their food, they brought with them from home or the catch of the day, sit together, talk quietly, and watch the last light disappear across the lake before darkness settles over the water.

Camping is possible in some areas around the lake, and during the warmer months it is not unusual to see small fishing camps along the shoreline.

If you decide to stay overnight, remember to respect private property, take any waste with you when leaving, and be careful with open fires.

During dry summer periods, the grass and vegetation around the lake can
become very dry.

Lake Manta is known for its variety of fish, and whether you are hoping for carp, crucian carp, bream, roach, pike, catfish, or perhaps even zander, there is always a chance that the next cast might bring something interesting.

For someone visiting Moldova for the first time and looking for a place
to fish, Lake Manta is a good place to start.

The shoreline is easy to reach in many areas, the lake offers plenty
of space, and you do not need to spend a long time before finding a place of your own near the water.

As mentioned earlier, hours often pass very quickly here.

Sometimes the catches are good, sometimes they are not, but most people seems to leave with something to remember anyway.

Perhaps it is the open southern sky, the reeds moving in the wind, or simply sitting near the water while the day slowly turns into evening.

And who knows, perhaps you will return home with a new fishing story.

By the time it has been told a few times, the fish might even have
grown a little bigger.
